Armchair Warriors

So I have been watching MMA events since the early 1990’s and training in Martial Arts since the 80’s and truly enjoy watching the evolution of the sport. I also enjoy getting on the various MMA websites and forums and interacting with other MMA enthusiasts. But I have found that as the sport has grown and evolved that there is a growing number of ARMCHAIR WARRIORS lurking around.

You know who they are, they are the ones that complain that a fight wasn’t exciting enough or that one fighter is a (insert expletive here) because all he does is take the other fighter down. This from a guy who sits in his favorite sports bar or recliner at home and drinks 30 beers during a 3 hour event and consumes his weight in hot wings at the same time.

Dick (that’s what I named him) hasn’t seen the inside of a gym since high school, but now he is an expert commentator on MMA.

I think that anybody that has the balls to get up every day and train, through the pain and injuries, and makes it to a level where they are walking into a cage or ring and actually fighting another human being. Deserves every ones respect, especially from  someone who calls them self a fan. Everyone loves a huge knockout myself included,  however I equally enjoy watching two BJJ black belts roll looking for the setups and sub attempts and seeing how the opponent defends.

Some guys train every day of their lives and never make to the professional level. And the fighters who do make it to the big show have to make many sacrifices and a 100% commitment to training MMA if they want to have any longevity and success. Sometimes that’s still not enough.

When somebody like Dick starts in on a professional fighters performance I want to ask when was the last time he competed in a professional MMA match, or what organization did you hold the Championship Belt in DICK?

I know that most fighters don’t read the blogs and websites because of ARMCHAIR WARRIORS like Dick, and I can’t blame them. The next time you are sharing your opinion on a pro fight or event ask yourself “am I being a Dick?”
