
Nate Diaz vs Grey Maynard
Round 1: Diaz keeping his distance with the standup action and opens up a cut on Maynard. Maynard swinging for the fences with some big overhand rights, but not landing much. Diaz hit by an uppercut as he ducks. Diaz says “bring it” or something along those lines and the two keep the stand up action going.
Round 2: Diaz with a consistent right hook, seems to be looking for a take down. Maynard lands a nice over hand right and a body shot. Diaz lands a nice right. Maynard with a right and knee that drops Diaz to the canvas. Diaz stands back up and eats another right that makes him stumble. Manrard with another right. Diaz getting in a few shots. Diaz with a nice left right combo and a kick to the body. The round ends with both fighters swinging through the air.
Roudn 3: Maynard with a nice knee to the head. Diaz with a weak head kick. Diaz with a consistent right hook then brings a left that tags Maynard. The two keep trading, but Diaz seems to be landing more shots and gets a decent kick to the chest. After a hard overhand right by Maynard that drops Diaz, Diaz attempts takedown but Maynard evades and the two end up back on their feet. They leave it to the judges and Grey Maynard wins via split decisoin.
Efrain Escudero vs Evan Dunham
Round 1: Season 8 Ultimate Fighter winner, Efrain Escudero starts things off with a leg kick, a body kick and clinches with Dunham, putting him up against the cage. They release and begin trading in the center of the cage again. Escudero rushes Dunham, and puts him against the cage again and lands a nice knee to the head. They release and proceed to the center of the cage where Escudero lands a nice upper cut then a big knee followed by a flurry of punches and a big right hand that droops Dunham to the canvas. Escudero inside Dunham’s rubber guard, drops some punches and then jumps for the guillotine. Escudero lets go and the two standup. Escudero goes for a flying knee and Dunham throws him to the ground. The two wrestle as the round ends.
Round 2: Trading…trading, neither fighter landing anything too significant. Dunham finally lands a nice over hand right and a knee. Dunham gets a takedown, falling in Escudero’s half guard. Dunham with elbows and body shots. Dunham postures up and gets some nice face shots. Dunham then transitions to Escudero’s back and puts in a body triangle with thirty seconds left. The round ends as Dunham has Escudero’s back and is unloading.
Round 3: Dunham shoots for takedown as Escudero attempts a guillotine. Dunham evades, scrambles, stands up and takes Escudero down falling into side control. Dunham gets a full mount, Escudero give s up his back but Dunham rolls and starts implementing an armbar. Dunham cranking hard on Escudero’s arm but Escudero doesn’t want to tap . Escudero likely sustains some arm damage as Dunham defeats him via armbar.
Tom Lawler vs Aaron Simpson
Round 1: Lawler, “the funny guy” showed that his stand up isn’t anything to laugh at as he brought flurries of punches and landed several big right hands and an uppercut to Simpsons dome. While he took a beating, Simpson showed his toughness as he evaded takedown several times well as the gauntlet of punches from Lawler that appeared to cause some significant damage.
Round 2: Coming out for round two, Simpson looks as though he has recovered well from round one and mangaes to get a takedown. Lawler stands back up, lands another right hand and takes Simpson down. Simpson also gets back up and the two just bang and push each other up against the cage. Simpson now brings a couple nice rights, but is unable to make much progress. Lawler goes for a guillotine as the round ends.
Round 3: Trading, trading…. Simpson gets a nice takedown, but again Lawler gets right back up and returns the favor with a takedown of his own. Simpson also stands right back up showing just how closely matched these guys are. Simpson gets another takedown, and both fighters are looking very tired, especially Lawler. Simpson goes for full mount and gets it. Lawler rolls over in attempt to escape. Simpson takes his back and keeps it through a few transitions. Finally Lawler stands back up and the two just bang until the horn blows. This was a very good match up. Aaron Simpson wins via split decision.
Amir Sadolla vs Brad Blackurn
While it was apparent that these two fighters both came to fight, the season 7 Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadolla managed to get the best of the majority of exchanges as the fight progresed. Landing more kicks, knees and punches, Sadolla stunned Blackburn several times and and capitalized with several takedowns as well as some ground and pound. While an obviously dominant Sadolla managed to out work Blackburn at every aspect of the game, he was unable to finish him in the third round. Amir wins via unanimous decision.
