If you watched the fight between Mike Brown and Urijah Faber at WEC 41, you may have noticed that Faber hardly threw that big overhand right of his and could not quite execute a takedown. Instead he proceeded with a stand up game that consisted of a bunch of elbow striking and left hooks. Faber, as innovative and unorthodox as he is, was not trying out a new fighting style or using a new pre planned strategy he had been working on in the gym. He actually broke his right hand in the first round and could no longer punch or grip with it. This left him with two options. He could quit, or improvise and continue to fight. Faber did what a true warrior would do, he continued to fight. This was no wimpy fracture either. Here is the X-Ray Picture from Urijah’s Twitter Page.

To continue fighting with a broken hand like this must of not only been very difficult, but also very painful. Props to Faber for putting on a great fight even with this injury. Had he not broken his hand early in the fight, there is a good chance that he could have emerged victorious.
